Short notice tests

We also offer short notice tests to those who need a test real quick. All driving test candidates need to give the DVSA a minimum of three working days notice when changing or cancelling their test to avoid forfeiting their test fee paid to the DVSA. Occasionally when a candidate knows for sure that they can’t make their test in a short notice window they may still decide to cancel their test in order for another candidate to take that slot. Do bear in mind that short notice cancellations are not as frequently available but if you opt-in for a short notice test we will try to find you one as soon as possible.

DRIVING TEST HISTORY

The first licences were introduced to the UK in 1903 under the Motor Car Act of 1903 but no test was required. The highway code was launched in 1931 at a cost of one penny and was very different to the version we have today. By 1933 there were only 1.8 million cars on the roads but over 7000 people were killed and a staggering 216,000 were injured. Due to the increasing number of casualties, a test was brought in under the Road Traffic Act 1934. Over the next six decades, it would change to adapt to the changing times. One of the largest changes came about in 1990 when the theory test was introduced. With the increasing emphasis on technology, it was updated in December 2017 which introduced a compulsory section to follow a sat nav for 10 minutes.

New earlier test dates can also become available. Test centres randomly release batches of new test dates due to more examiner availability and other reasons.

Whenever a pupil cancels their test or when a test centre releases
new dates you can change your currently book test to any of these new dates.

A test cancellation becomes available when a pupil has had to rearrange their test date; usually due to not being ready to take their practical driving test.
